Our school is distinguished by its in-depth presentation of all dimensions of yoga practice, including asana. These teachings and practices are designed to evoke spiritual insight and are applicable to every day life. The unique structure of the program allows for the steady and sustainable integration of the methods, techniques and philosophy.
Students are given real life assignments that engage them in the practice of yoga at every level. Examples of this include the practice of yogic precepts, dietary modifications and student led experiments. Students are also strongly encouraged to develop a home practice. We believe that personal practice is the foundation for responsible teaching.
The study of yoga postures comprises about 65% of the training. Poses are taught from both a flowing and stationary perspective. You will learn the specific bio-mechanics of 24 signature postures in addition to their deeper subtle components. These deeper teachings are rarely accessible in a typical gym or studio setting and are distinguishing feature of Axis Yoga’s training.
The 200hr. long program is divided into three distinct phases:
- Foundational Methods, weeks 1-4, offer an in-depth immersion into yoga practice. Here you will learn the primary postures, meditative forms, breathing techniques and theory that we will build upon throughout the training.
- The second component, weeks 5-9 emphasis a more detailed understanding of the subtle body components of practice, their therapeutic application and teaching techniques.
We will also give intensified instruction in ayurveda. You will will complete this segment with living tools to live a balanced and healthy life.
Here we are introduced to the practice of Bhakti Yoga in this portion of class
- The final segment weeks 10-14, focus almost exclusively on refining teaching methods, continuing personal practice and conclude with a teaching practicum.
